An Intervention....

Let's start with the good.....I am loving my life!!  My health seems to be slowly improving.  I have a beautiful family.  I am feeling so creative and inspired after taking an on-line art course.  I created some Halloween crafty art after seeing an example in a magazine and my neighbors loved it and asked me to make some for them (pictures coming soon).
Ok, so here's where it gets worrisome....I am all of a sudden a morning person....gasp!!!!  I can not wait to get out of bed in the morning and get to my art room for a few hours before my little people get up.  So what's the problem you ask??? Well, I don't have an alarm clock so I just trust my biological one and I get up when I wake up.  Usually I wake up between 5 and 5:30 am and head downstairs to make the coffee IV.  Wellllllll........today I got up, went downstairs, started the coffee, sat down at the computer to wait until it was done and then looked at the clock and it was:
 3:50 a.m.
What??? How could I have been so off???  I quickly went back to bed and tried SO hard to go back to sleep, but I knew that coffee was down there waiting for me....taunting me with it's rich aroma....so I got back up at 4:40 am and started my day.  Let's just say that it is now 11 am and I am ready for dinner ;)
Moral of the story: _______________________________ (fill in the blank in the comments below and  one will win a Halloween crafty craft made by this deliriously tired artist;)

Winner will be announced Friday.

Amazing On-Line class

Sorry I have been a little quiet lately...I've been taking an amazing on-line art class from Katie Kendrick. The above picture is a painted over collage.  I am learning so much and most importantly having a wonderful time.  I even jump (ok, not jump, but still) out of bed at 5 am to see what the daily art assignment is and for those that know me (and know that I am not a morning person) that means it must be good ;)
Have a wonderful weekend...
p.s. HUGE Etsy store sale coming in October (it's my favorite month;)

Born In My Heart

Original available HERE
My beautiful, smart, funny, silly daughter is adopted from Ethiopia and she was indeed Born In My Heart.  We dreamed of her and waited and waited, oh and waited some more until we were able to take the life changing trip to meet her and then back again to pick her up.  The whole time she was born and then grew in our hearts.  Today it feels like she has always been here......I think maybe she has.  I think there are quite a few relationships that are born in our hearts.  What relationships were born in your heart?
A couple new original paintings are up on my Etsy site.  Some still have free shipping because frankly I haven't had time to go back and add the shipping so hopefully someone will take advantage of my lack of time and grab one before the shipping fee is added back ;)

Eat Cake.

My other "artform" is baking Cheesecakes.  I wasn't able to do it for awhile because I have been so sick and off of dairy and sugar.  As hard as I tried I could not figure out how to make a cheesecake without dairy and sugar, ha.  Now that I am feeling better (knock on wood) I have started baking again and I LOVE it.  Above is a print I created of my son eating his cheesecake...yum, yum!!!
So today....go EAT CAKE!!!

What I'm Thinking About Today...

Vincent Van Gogh once said, "Your profession is not what brings home your weekly paycheck.  Your profession is what you are put on this earth to do-with such passion and such intensity, it becomes a spiritual calling."

Apply Blush!?!?

One of my friends called me one time and said, "Why is it that when I put on a little bit of blush I just feel better?"  I don't know....but whatever works!!
Lately i've been feeling the weight of having so much to juggle....kids, art, house, finances, friends, family, traveling.  How do we do it all and remain sane???  Maybe we don't ;)

Well....when all else fails....Apply Blush!!

The Journey

Where are you going? Which path will you take? How will you get there?
Be patient. So hard to be patient. Enjoy the moments along the way. No regrets. Yeah, right. So many regrets already. Let them go. Keep moving. Sit still. Breathe.

Where are you going? What do you dream of for your life? Leave me a note in the comments. I sincerely want to know ;)

Some New Stuff....

Trying out different styles can be SO fun and SO frustrating. I feel like I need to "pick a style" and as soon as I do I am influenced by another artist and it all changes. So I just keep going and here are a few that have come out of my process of discovering who I am as an artist:

This one is a mixed media piece with Acrylic paint, graphite and vintage sheet music. The pieces of sheet music read: "Into each lonely hour you seem to come and go. The happiness you bring you'll never, never know. For tho' you left me you left me too, SO MANY MEMORIES of ....you"

This is Acrylic paint and graphite on canvas.

Sides are also painted so it is ready to hang.

This is Acrylic paint, ink and graphite on canvas. It has some texture made from "dried" acrylic paint.

Sides are finished so it is ready to hang.

Oh, and I got my new scanner and printer this weekend and we are figuring out how to make high quality prints. Hopefully my Etsy store will be up and running soon!!!! AND my new website is in the works....WOO HOO, exciting stuff happening around here!!!!! Thank you SO much for following along.

Wisconsin...

Well, I'm off to Wisconsin for a few days and I plan on sitting in the same spot that my baby girl is in the picture above, on the same comfy couch at my parents' house to get some R&R. I am also taking my new zoom lens and "fancy" camera (that I still don't really know how to use) so that I can get some great pictures of, well, cows. Seriously....I want to take some "country life" pictures, so I am sure there will be a few cows in there ;)

Have a wonderful few days!!!

New Art and thoughts...

This is a new piece I just finished. It doesn't have a name yet. I was in such a bad place when I painted this....chronic pain, frustration, confusion, anger, sadness. I literally just started throwing paint on the canvas. Reds and blacks and some dark blue for a "punch". I just completed an Art4Healing Certificate training and let me tell you....this stuff works. We all need to find a way to get "it" out. Maybe for you it is writing or photography or.....screaming. Screaming's good. I need to scream more. I felt like I was screaming when I flung the paint at the canvas and smacked some spots here and there. I felt the tears when I sprayed the paint and watched the red tinted drops of water stream down my painting. Sometimes it's so hard. So hard to do it all. So hard to deal with the pain. But it sure helps to get it out.

One I was able to get some of my "stuff" out I was able to feel the clouds part slightly. I started thinking about all that I had to live for and all that I am blessed with. My colors became brighter and my shapes more whimsical. The word "hope" floated across the bottom of my canvas because if we don't have hope, what do we have? Some days it's so hard to find it....but it's always there.....waiting for you.....when you're ready.

I HOPE you have a wonderful holiday weekend. Be safe. Be creative....oh, and of'course....

Have fun!!!!!

xoxo

First Art Class!!!

(room set up)
Today was my first art class and we had so much fun!!! I am teaching "Expressive" art classes based around my Art4Healing training. This class was 4 girls ages 7-12, so I called it "Girl Power" class.

We did a warm up to show them how different colors and movements can symbolize their feelings.

Warm up #2 was to paint a beautiful garden of melting colors.

The large canvas was a guided exercise where they imagined that they had shrunk and were traveling through their bodies.

The last small canvas was to be a gift for someone and they each drew a word to inspire them. I demonstrated a couple techniques that they could use if they were inclined.

All in all, it was a wonderful class and I was so struck at their different approaches to the same exercises (3 were sisters, 2 of the 3 were twins). The energy in the room of girls was lively and creative. I loved feeling their bubbling excitement as they discovered more and more about the world of art and creativity.

Can't wait for more classes, and according to today's girls, we should have class EVERY day, ha.
